Dr. Garrett was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA, graduating from Episcopal High School in 1989. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Millsaps College in 1993 and his Medical Degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1997. He entered the US Army after medical school, completing his Internal Medicine Residency at the Brooke Army Medical Center and his Cardiology Fellowship at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC).
Dr. Garrett served as a staff cardiologist for the Brooke Army Medical Center for 5 years, before returning home to join Louisiana Cardiology Associates in 2008. During his military career, he maintained a faculty position for the SAUSHEC Cardiology Fellowship and served as a Battalion Surgeon in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004, earning a Bronze Star medal for his service.
